BEAM AND BAR JOIST DESIGN
Allows Longer Spans And Helps To Eliminate The "Spongy" Effect Encountered In Construction
Column-Beam Connections
Wherever possible, standard beams over column connections are used. The resulting bearing-type connection is more efficient and reliable than shear connections. Loads are passed directly from beam to column, thereby minimizing the number of load-bearing components. Where support beams and deck beams intersect at columns, structural connections are used to resist lateral loading occurances. Connection hardware is grade A325.
Schmidt’s staff will assist you from project conception through completion virtually anywhere in the continental United States.
Column base plates are designed specifically for each job with a minimum size of 8" x 8" x 1/2". Base plates are factory-drilled for minimum 1/2" x 4-1/ 2" stud anchors. Minimum standard columns are 6" x 6" x 3/16" unless specified differently by the customer.
Beam-Beam Connections
Bolted structural angle clips connected with A325 bolts are standard for these connections.
Beam-to-beam designs are used instead of bar joists for excessive loading requirements and/or when deck thickness may restrict clear height under mezzanine. Deflection factors can be engineered within a range between L/ 240 to L/420.
