SCHMIDT INTRODUCES
Noise & Vibration Reduction System For Mezzanines
Oaks, PA - Schmidt has developed a new noise and vibration dampening system for mezzanines intended for applications where sound and vibration are detrimental to process operation. The system was originally created to solve specific acoustic suppression needs of the U.S. Postal Service and the 2004 Republican National Convention.
Working in partnership with a leading national acoustics consultant who specializes in theatre and performing arts applications, a new sound suppression system was developed to work with today's mezzanine construction methods. This proprietary system employs a mezzanine deck comprised of alternating isolated layers of solid, soft, and acoustical materials. It also utilizes a special fastening system which eliminates the transfer of vibration and sound between layers. In addition, the system incorporates an isolation barrier between beams and columns and between columns and the floor.
The USPS is currently installing ventilation and filtration systems in over 240 mail distribution centers across the US. Their system includes a Schmidt mezzanine which supports an air-handling unit and other equipment 12 ft above the floor. The special dampening system was needed to reduce platform vibration and maintain the operational integrity of other components in the sensitive ventilation and filtration system.
For the RNC, Schmidt designed a 30,000 sq. ft. mezzanine system for the 2004 National Convention in NYC. The entire floor of Madison Square Garden was raised 9-1/2 ft, while providing noise and vibration suppression that allowed an estimated 15,000 participants to walk the floor as television cameras and sound units reported on the action. A special noise dampening system was employed in the entire structure to isolate sound and vibration on the mezzanine, as well as in the cavity below where vehicles and utilities such as compressors and air conditioning systems operate.
This new acoustical system is now available for industrial and commercial applications where high sound and noise levels are an issue. |
